My son uses this, and he has absolutely no problems. It's sturdy and has some heft. It is what is, and yes you do get what you pay for. For the price and quality, it's a great deal. i know everyone can't be pleased and they'll find something wrong with it. My son uses it to record music. he has this hooked up to his PC, and at times uses it on other devices

It's a pretty sturdy stand, looks nice and is solid and the price is right which is why I gave it 3 stars. I thought the squeeze handle that adjusts the height would be easier than the normal twist lock -- and it is-- BUT the spring that operates the handle rattles against the plastic handle making it a VERY bad stand for studio recording. Even lightly tapping the stand creates a rattling noise that will travel into any mic you put into it (I stomped on the floor and it rattled!) Besides that it's a decent stand. If you need a boom stand for a low price then I recommend it for live performance only.
UPDATE: I've been putting off this update for a couple of months. I had a fairly heavy condenser mic on one end and my friend went to move it picking it up off the ground then accidentally grabbing the slide handle, and the bottom fell right out. Out come a spring, seal and a rod. I mean, the part actually holding the mic was way heavier than the base and it just couldn't take the weight?? I don't get it. It's the second newest stand I have (out of 8-- some of which have been road tested for 6 or 7 years!) and this was the first one to break. The telescoping part below the handle slid right out of base rod (?) and looked like a MAJOR pain in the ass to fix. Threw it right out. I was disappointed, I really thought this one would last longer than a couple years of practically no use. I stand by my statement saying this mic stand is not for any professional recording situation adding only that it sure wasn't meant for road travel AT ALL. If you need it for a church or bar room where it's just going to sit in the same spot day after day not getting much movement or play, then it might be ok. But it is truly a piece of crap. Which is why I have downgraded it to 2 stars. (Only reason I didn't give it 1 was cause the handle thing is pretty easy and quick, despite the fact that that very handle led to its demise.)
